Comics, God + Tortillas |
"comics, god + tortillas" by Elias Gonzalez at The Wedge Gallery - October 30th through November 26th. Opening Reception on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
The second artist to exhibit in our new gallery-The Wedge, is SCUCC's own Elias Gonzalez. An Arizona resident for just over two years, Elias moved here from Pasadena [Los Angeles], California when his father was nearing the end of his life while on home hospice. He now lives with his 84-year old mother, Mary [or "Migi Mo" as he likes to call her-ask him about it sometime...] and serves as her caregiver.
In "comics, god + tortillas," Elias creates vignettes using family heirlooms, artifacts discovered in his global travels as an admissions counselor, and random, quirky "found objects" to give us a glimpse into his journey.
He also uses images from his collection of Moleskine sketchbooks to serve as wallpaper onto which he has created collages that share his love of family/friends, comics, graphic novels, music and storytelling. He also uses this installation to provide glimpses into how his creative and spiritual journeys along with his cultural heritage have served as tethers during his tumultuous journey these past few years.
We hope you take some time to walk through his installation and see his story unfold.
Please join us for an Opening Reception on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in The Wedge Gallery. Bring a friend!
