Open and Affirming

SCUCC welcomes into our full life and ministry people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. We also promote the acceptance of LGBTQ+ people by society, and work for justice. To proudly support LGBTQ+ people, in recent years SCUCC is prominantly displaying banners, and has also walked in the Pride Parade. The presence of a mainline denomination in the parade was greatly appreciated by that community.

We have been an Open and Affirming congregation since 1998 when, after a Bible study series of prayer and exploration, we updated our Constitution with an official Open and Affirming Statement, which was again revised in 2018. Go to our Open and Affirming Statement to see its full text.
